Do you need to change your permalink? As a note your permalink is the url for a page or a post. If you find yourself in this situation you need to do a 301 redirect.
My first piece of advice:
Do everything that you possibly can NOT to change your permalink.
My second piece of advice:
If you must change your permalink make sure that you do a 301 redirect.

301 Moved Permanently
A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect which passes between 90-99% of link juice (ranking power) to the redirected page. 301 refers to the HTTP status code for this type of redirect. In most instances, the 301 redirect is the best method for implementing redirects on a website. ~source
