why-youtubeAre you on YouTube yet? If not it is something that you must seriously consider. As you will see in the stats listed below more than 1 billion unique viewers stop by YouTube on any given month. Dude, that is almost as if everyone in China decided to watch a YouTube video in one month. To give you some perspective, there are almost 318 million people living in the United States and as you will see below YouTube reaches more people in a prime target market than cable tv. This is something that you must consider when you are trying to grow your business blog.

No really, I am not kidding here but I will say this: If you  have not started blogging then you should get that house in order first.

What kind of YouTube videos should you make?

Now that you have a general understanding of why you should have videos on YouTube let’s have a brief conversation about what kind of videos people care about. First ask yourself, what kind of videos do I care about?

About Sales Videos

I bet that you don’t really give a crap about some kind of sales video unless you happen to really be interested in that service at that given moment. As a result sales videos are important and my advice is to get them out of the way immediately. We will get into adding value in a moment but the truth is that sales videos are extremely important. They are not just important for you to hopefully generate some income but if they are done well, they can add value to someone looking for your service. Remember selling is not bad but selling all of the time or only selling is bad.

Add Value with Your Videos

If you want to develop fans, ya know the kind that keep coming back to see more of your stuff, then add value with your content.  No matter what industry you are in there is a way for you to add value with your video content. If you are plumber there is still a way for you to add value with your videos. The key is to sit down and think about the kinds of questions that your clients have asked you in the past and the kind of questions that you wish that your clients would ask you. What can you explain better on video than with the written word? What can you enhance with a tutorial video?

Do not be Afraid to Stray, Slightly!

Remember that not everything has to be directly on topic. A great example of this is a lawn care company providing a tip about cleaning the gutters at your house. The point is that you don’t have to talk just about services that you offer. Feel free to make videos about things that are indirectly related but still add value for your potential client.

Now let’s get down to a YouTube Tip

A popular question that I have been getting for years: How do you get all the recommended videos to always be your company’s (see below)?

Before I explain how to do this, we need to discuss why this is important. Let’s say you are in the garage door business and you are generating leads and content through YouTube. You do not want potential clients going to a competitor’s video. Since YouTube is owned by Google, you need to understand how Google/YouTube group and associate similar videos. They perform groupings from titles, descriptions, and tags associated with each and every video.

Note in the image below that YouTube does show your associated videos right next to your current video playing. This is not the area that we are going to talk about. how-to-youtube

The real trick is in the image below. When people scroll down to read your video details, share the video or read comments, you want them to see more of your videos to watch. You do not want them to see your competitors videos instead.

With that said, let’s dive into the three ways you should title, describe, and tag your newly uploaded videos.

1. The Title Must Mention Your Company First. Looking closely at the videos on I Teach Blogging Channel you will find that each of the first characters in the title ALWAYS start with I Teach Blogging. If I was making a video about nails, I would title it… “I Teach Blogging talks about Nails.” To form a grouping, you must always begin each video with the same name or company.

2. Description Also Starts with Your Company and Name. The description section is your normal English complete sentences on what your video is about. Just like the Title section, you must mention your company and your name within the first few words of the blurb. “Renee’ Groskreutz of, I Teach Blogging, talks about the value and quality of 3″ nails.”

3. Tags Start with Your Company and Name too. Tags are the list of single words or phrases, comma delimited in a list. I Teach Blogging, Renee’ Groskreutz, nails, types of nails, building with nails.

A final tip to association videos: Add the address or location of your business. These four techniques combined take only a few minutes when you upload a new video. Therefore they are necessary to consider when to make associated videos always yours!

  1. Interesting tips Renee.

It always frustrates me when I take my time to create a video, only for the viewer to scroll down and see other videos – especially frustrating when the video has an affiliate slant to it.

I wonder if this would work with my blog name at the end? Certainly something I will look at.

    Thanks Renee,

    Richard
